UK Building Compliance were appointed to undertake some bespoke SAP 10 Consultancy in order to determine the best ways to achieve compliance for the upcoming uplift to Part L Standards

THE PROCESS

To achieve compliance, our assessors devised a robust methodology in order to predict the performance of various products under numerous scenarios
SAP 10 Beta was used to carry out SAP Calculations on a typical 2-bedroom, 3-bedroom & 4-bedroom dwelling
U-Values were set at upcoming Part L notional standards for all dwellings to ensure consistency
The calculations provided figures for each of the compliance metrics – Dwelling Emission Rating (DER), Dwelling Fabric Energy Efficiency (DFEE) & the newly introduced Dwelling Primary Energy Rating (DPER)
The following scenarios were ran:

1) Gas Central Heating, Hot Water and Solar PV
2) Infrared Room Heaters and Air Source Heat Pump Hot Water Cylinder
3) Infrared Room Heaters, Electric Immersion Hot Water and Solar PV
4) Gas Central Heating and Air Source Heat Pump Hot Water Cylinder
5) Infrared Room Heaters, Air Source Heat Pump Hot Water Cylinder and Solar PV

SAP 10 shows a clear shift to electricity becoming more favourable as a fuel source
However, renewable technologies such as Heat Pumps and Solar PV will need to play a role in all developments from June 2022, along with an increase in fabric performance – such as wider wall cavities
