Environmental Noise Survey

THE BRIEF

  • UK Building Compliance completed an Environmental Noise Survey and Noise Impact assessment in Birmingham
  • Our client needed this Residential Noise Survey to gain planning approval for the erection of a 30 flat apartment block
  • This is under the National Planning Policy Framework (2021), Noise Policy Statement for England (2010) and British Standard BS8233:2014 ‘Guidance on Sound Insulation and Noise Reduction for Buildings’
  • We also completed SAP Assessments and Water Usage Calculations in order to meet Part L & G of the Building Regulations
Environmental Noise Survey

THE PROCESS

  • Two sound level meters were used and were attached to separate lamp posts: one adjacent to a local road and the other at the north-western perimeter of the site
  • These monitoring locations were chosen to collect sound levels during both daytime and at night
  • Using these measurements, we determined a suitable Sound Insulation Scheme and were able to identify any potential specific Ventilation requirements

THE RESULTs

  • AVERAGE SAP ASSESSMENT RESULTS

≤ 25.47

Average Target Emission Rate (TER)

≤ 40.24

Average Target Fabric Energy Efficiency (TFEE)

25.05

Average Dwelling Emission Rate (DER)

41.52

Average Dwelling Fabric Energy Efficiency (DFEE)

PASS
