THE BRIEF
- UK Building Compliance were appointed to undertake a Commercial Sustainability Statement
- Located in Coventry, this was for the demolition of an existing burned down warehouse site for 3 new warehouses
- Coventry Council required a Sustainable Building Statement, which is an Energy Statement with a few additional areas that the local council would like to be addressed
THE PROCESS
- The units were modelled with a Fabric First approach which means we look at the construction design of the building first and try to achieve a realistic high-performance construction spec/low U value - this is referred to as the “Be Lean” stage
- Our assessors looked at the heating system to see if this could be adjusted to a higher efficiency standard. In this case, we used efficient boilers with additional heating controls for an extra boost - this was under the "Be Clean" stage
- As part of the "Be Green" stage of the Statement, we specified a 10kW Solar PV System
THE RESULT
- Compliant
- A 5% carbon reduction was achieved in the "Be Lean" stage
- The "Be Clean" stage achieved a 7% carbon reduction
- As part of the "Be Green" stage, the statement went above and beyond the minimum requirements in order to demonstrate a <10% carbon offset - a total of 17% reduction was achieved
